In this photo JFK is dead and people are at his funeral. This shows how influential JFK was and how much people loved him. Many people were sad and weeping especially women . Even though I have not learned about JFK from this picture I can tell that he was a very nice man and that people loved him very much. He must've made many changes to the US that changed many peoples lives.

Lewis Hine's Photos of Child Labor (UPDATED)

UPDATED POST
Source
This picture reminds me of my self because I used to also be a newspaper boy and had to give out papers in the rain sometimes. This boy must feel stressed and depressed as I once felt when I gave out papers. This all is part of the job so after a while you get used to it. The only thing worth keeping this job is the profit; that's if your customers give you good tips.

New York City Tenements

Source

Tenements were beat down houses that immigrants were forced to live in. These houses wee very small and very congested. There was very little source of water which therefore led to many diseases such as tuberculosis.

This image shows a man in his bedroom. In  his kitchen there are dishes, furniture and his bed and also iron. This depicts how hard it was in the tenements. Nowadays it is not normal for people to have a mattress in the kitchen with plates by your bed. I chose this image because I found it very strange to see a bed in the kitchen. It seemed very obscure to me.

The Triangle Factory fire in New York City on March 25,1911York and resulted in the fourth highest loss of life from an industrial accident in U.S. history. The triangle factory was a very important factory in the United States history.

This is an image of women in the dressmaking room. Most women were employed in the dress making firms. I chose this picture because the women seem to be working very hard. Also most women are  employed by the dressmaking companies which brings in the most income to their families

Red Sox Nation

Source

To win a championship it takes hard work and determination. Nothing comes easy and it success will never knock on your door. The Boston Red Sox is more than just a sports team. The Red Sox represent the whole city of Boston. They play for the city. There are fans from all over the city and world. People of different origins come together for this one common thing: Baseball. Blacks, Whites, Asians , Spanish people etc. all come together as one to be called Red Sox Nation. This also brings in income to the city. People buy expensive tickets to watch the stars play. The players also get paid very much. This all leads to the wealth of the franchise. At the end of the season the winner of the championship ; world series, is awarded a trophy and rings and also the bragging rights of being on top.

US immigration

Source

During the mid 1900's the immigration rate was rapidly increasing. Many people from all over the world were coming to America to find a better source of living. Some left because of religious prejudice while others because of poverty. This all happened because of the international pursuit of happiness.

I chose this picture because many immigrants are travelling into America to find happiness and success. They are on the boat. The conditions are pretty poor and it is very packed and crowded. The people are squished onto each other and it is very possible someone can fall out.

This is a map of where the immigrants were coming from.

Present Day Child Labor

Source

I chose this photo because it looks very sad to me. Seeing a young child be taken from school to pound rocks is quite barbaric. Also I have seen this happen before when I went to Cameroon. Seeing kids that are less than half my age working hard to break stones and sell for meager wages to support their families is devastating. Things like this make me notice how fortunate and blessed I am to have a roof over my head and to be in school because children like such would wish to be in school and have the opportunities I have.

ORIGINAL POST

This is a picture of a young boy selling newspapers in the rain. I picked this picture because I can relate to this.  I am a paper boy and I give out newspapers to many people. I have given out papers in the rain before so I know how bad and stressed this young boy must feel. This all is part of the job so after a while you get used to it. The profit for one is quite reasonable and worth it.

My Native American Name

Slow Spider

Slow Spider

The Native American name that I chose is " Slow Spider". I named myself slow because I'm not very fast. I don't walk fast either, I like taking my time. In the hallways since I walk slowly  I barely ever get to class early; either on time or always late.
I call myself a spider because once someone comes near me they are automatically attracted to me and cant leave my clench. I attract people towards me and the get stuck in my "web. People may try to leave my clutches but cant because of how strong my "web".

Native American Portraits

Source

The Native American Experience

The Native Americans were treated severely during the American westward expansion. Native Americans were forced to leave their land and live in a different area. Americans acted as dictators to the Native Americans. This was a very unjust experience that the Native Americans. Nowadays people have freedom of speech and religion but at that time the American would neither let the Native Americans speak their vernacular nor worship their way. Christianity was imposed upon them. The Native Americans had no freedom whatsoever. They had to abide to all the American laws. They were treated as slaves. When gold or other natural resources were found in a particular area the Native Americans were forced to leave that are for Americans to come and inherit the resources. Many laws were mad to favor just the American and not in regard of the Native American wellbeing. Even when the Native American just danced they were being asked to stop. This was a very hostile lifestyle for the Native Americans.
